- The
Illinois Recycling Grants Program has formally opened
its FY08 grant cycle. Two types of recycling projects will
be considered, traditional and electronic. Grant applications
are due no later than 5 pm, December 19, 2007. Workshops
to discuss the Request-for-Application documents will be
held on October 10 - DeKalb; October 12 - Springfield; October
17 - Murphysboro.
- Governor
Blagojevich signs legislation to provide Illinoisans
relief from electric rate increases under the "Illinois
Power Agency Act" on August 28, 2007. The bill
includes a Renewable Portfolio Standard that requires Illinois
utilities to meet 25% of their customers’ electricity
needs from renewable energy sources like wind power by 2025.

hails passage of U.S. comprehensive energy bill August

- Energy legislation approved in August by the U.S. Congress
includes a tax deduction of up to $1.80 per ft2 ($19.38
per m2) for new or renovated buildings that exceed the ASHRAE
Standard 90.1-2001 by 50% or more. According to the National
Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), individual
systems can receive a deduction of 60 cents per ft2 ($6.46
per m2) for individual systems. The deductions will take
effect Dec. 31.
